Internet Mapping in China

Baidu releases internet map of China with AJAX controls. Unfortunately, The level of map detail in most places is still pretty low. Currently Google has satelite images but not street level maps. If you are in Hong Kong I suggest trying out Centamap or YP Hong Kong. My favorite for HK is Centamap, because it can show public transportation or restaurants directly on the map.

Microsoft changes leadership but is it enough?

This week, Microsoft announced a re-organization into 3 new divisions, with the big change being James Allchin will retire after Windows Vista is scheduled to be released in 2006. With a flurry of Microsoft executives and distinguished engineers leaving for Google, it seems there is something rotten in Redmond. Here are 2 news stories that caught my attention:

Here no evil, See no evil

The latest Yahoo episode where company founder Jerry Yang confirmed it was just complying with local laws by providing information which led to the arrest of a Chinese journalist got me thinking. If Google has a cool slogan like "Don't be Evil" than Yahoo needs one too. I suggest "Hear no Evil, See no Evil". Instead of 3 monkeys with the hands over the eyes, ears and mouths; it can feature Terry, Jerry and David.
